No. 29 Power Station West Garden Terrace

Built in summer 2022, No. 29 Power Station West is part of the Sustainable Restaurant Association, serving delicious, sustainably sourced food in the icon Battersea Power Station.

The garden was designed to create shelter from the wind while incorporating the views surrounding the terrace. Customers sit among the edible plants, looking through the three tiered Espalier apple trees that are trained along tension wires to frame their surroundings. They are underplanted with a beautiful mix of edible plants such as oxalis, fennel, nasturtium, borage and many varieties of salvia.

The steel planters have been designed and made bespoke for the garden. The planters are built and sprayed with a zinc rich coating before being aged to give a sleek, industrial finish. They are then filled with a unique mix of LECA for drainage, half soil, quarter manure and quarter recycled mushroom compost to provide nutrients and drainage for the edible plants and crops.

This terrace garden provides a relaxed, interesting, sheltered area for guests to sit among the plants, crops for chefs to harvest, while framing the views that surround the restaurant, which can be enjoyed through the arms of the apple trees.
