In the spring of 2016 Urban Organic was commissioned to rebuild one of the gardens at the Coutts Skyline Garden on the Strand in central London.
The brief demanded that we create a garden that lasts, maximises food production for the kitchen, and looks beautiful all year round. We therefore replaced the original wooden planters with bespoke powder coated steel planters, together with ten metal arches—to support climbing plants and create a greater visual impact to passersby at street level.
The garden uses fan and espaliér techniques to grow fruit trees under the arches and along the hand rail. Alongside ground level planting of strawberries and herbs, we grow tomatoes, cucumbers, peppers and aubergines—maximising the use of space and the southeast-facing aspect of the garden.
